EFCC BOSS BAWA CHARGES MEDIA PRACTITIONERS ON CURBING SPREAD OF FAKE NEW, HATE SPEECH

Media owners have been charged to utilise the Gatekeeper Concept in reducing the spate of the spread of Fake News and Hate Speech in the country.

Chairman Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC ABDULRASHEED BAWA made this assertion while during a 2-day workshop on BROADCAST ECOLOGY & POLITICS IN NIGERIA, organised by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission NBC in Lagos.

BAWA represented by the Director of Public Affairs EFCC, OSITA NWAJA noted that the principles guiding the broadcasting ethics if not upheld can tarnish the image of the country.

The 2-day workshop which ended today also focused on review on Report on Escalation of Hate and Dangerous Speech during the 2015 General Elections and Review Of Media Coverage Of 2019 General Elections, with papers delivered by different keynote speakers.

Declaring the 2-day workshop open, honourable minister of information LAI MOHAMMED advised the media houses to do proper research on information before broadcast, most especially with the 2023 general election fast approaching.

The workshop had in attendance, media stake holders, senior government officials, Chief Operation Officer, Solutions 939FM, Mrs FUNMILOLA CHIMA amongst others.
