ZONTA CLUBS IBADAN SENSITIZE NIGERIAN ADOLESCENTS IN COMMEMORATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF GIRL CHILD

In commemoration of this year’s international day of Girl child, Zonta clubs Ibadan have hosted a one-day sensitization workshop for female students ibadan the Oyo state capital.

Speaking at Zonta House Jericho Ibadan, venue of the event, Guest speakers Miss FIKUNMI a Career coach advised the students not to limit themselves in their career choices despite the opposite gender dominance.

Dr IFEOLUWA ADEGBENRO and Mrs BUKKY OBI highlighted importance of hygienic practices for young girls.

 

“And that’s the truth, You can change that male dominated field. You can be the only girl in a class full of boys and that’s okay”.

“Change your pads regularly between 4- 6 hours. And when you change your pads, when you put on a new one, it is very important that you wash yourself , that you should wash your vagina, with water, only water, some persons go as far as using antibacterial soap , medicated soap to wash because they claim that that area smells. And how do we wash , we wash from front to back”.

“Don’t compare yourself with anybody because our fingers are not all equal.But you have your own focus. I want to be this.
Okay, I want to be a lawyer. I want to be an accountant. I want to be a doctor. I want to be a nurse. I want to be an engineer. You have what you want to become. Just follow that process step by step”.

Speaking on importance of the workshop tagged “Girl ,vision for the future” President Zonta club 2, ENIOLA OYEDELE, said it was a session to listen to female adolescents, teach them on leadership,courage and choosing right career path.

Similarly, the President Zonta club 1, Mrs CHRISTY NNANNA says the gathering was also in line with the club’s agenda of educating a female child.

“Today we end value under the inspiring theme of girls vision for the future. This theme does not only highlight the aspirations of young girls but the call to us to listen to their voices and support their dreams.

As they celebrate this important day, let us recognize that girls are not just leaders of tomorrow, their leadership journey start from today”.

” So what we really want to achieve as a club, we start from our core values as Socians. One of our core values is to promote gender equality.
Number 2, to advocate for the right of women and girls and number 3, we empower women by supporting them in their skills, businesses and education.
We’ve been able to see some girls through school by paying their school fees like scholarship ”

Some of the participants expressed their joy for being part of the eye opening event.

Highlight of the 1-day event include, dance, practical demonstration of sanitary pad usage and distribution by G2W foundation, with photo sessions.

Our correspondent, SEYIFUNMI AKINSANYA reports that the event had in attendance over 120 female students from 6 secondary schools in Ibadan the Oyo state capital.
