SPORTS MINISTER ENOH PROMISES TOTAL RENOVATION OF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO STADIUM IBADAN; ENDS SPECULATION OF HANDOVER TO STATE GOVERNMENT

The Minister of Sports, Senator JOHN ENOH has promised to embark on a total renovation and upgrading the OBAFEMI AWOLOWO stadium, Ibadan and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

Senator ENOH who made this promise this morning when paid an on-the-spot inspection to the stadium, lamented the situation of the stadium and the facilities which has become obsolete and become a shadow of itself.
The former lawmaker, while addressing journalists after the inspection said his motive of visiting the former liberty stadium was to see the state of things himself and begin a proper plan for the face lift.

On the proposed plan of handing over of the Obafemi Awolowo stadium to the Oyo state government, the Rivers state born politician maintained that the Sports and Development Ministry under his administration will rather work on partnerships to help develop the sports centre which will aid long term training plan for Nigerian athletes ahead of major tournaments.

Facilities inspected include, Main bowl, media centre, weight lifting gym, gymnasium, indoor sports hall, hostels, baby swimming pool and the Olympic-size swimming pool.
