Oyo State First lady, Chief Mrs. TAMUNOMININI MAKINDE, has said that the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is the primary cause of cervical cancer and it is a major cause of death among women in Nigeria.
TAMUNOMININI who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Mrs. AJIBOLA LAWAL at the flag off ceremony of the 2024 Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine Introduction (HPVV) rollout in Oyo State today, stated that the state has taken a comprehensive approach to ensure that the vaccine is readily available and free, with guarantee that all eligible girls receive the vaccine.
Meanwhile, the commissioner for Health in Oyo State, Dr. OLUWASHERIMI AJITUNMOBI said over 600 thousand children between the age of 9-14 years would be vaccinated as part of the routine immunization program.
OLUWASHERIMI encouraged the parents to sensitize their children of the virus.
