The Christ Compassion to the Rural World (CCRW) medical outreach has conducted numerous complex surgeries, benefiting not only residents of Ibadan but patients from across Nigeria.
These procedures include maxillofacial surgeries, orthopedic surgeries, lump removals, IVF, plastic surgeries, and more.
The surgeries are being performed at the Ring Road Specialist Hospital, Anglican Diocese Hospital Molete, Police Hospital Eleyele, and Adeoyo State Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Speaking during a media tour of the hospitals with the CCRW team on Thursday, on the sidelines of the ongoing crusade, Dr. Olatunde Oladoyinbo, Coordinator of CCRW Medicals and Surgery in Ibadan, stated that patients are getting life-threatening and expensive surgeries performed free of charge. According to him, This has been made possible through the unwavering commitment of the CCRW Convener, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, who has ensured that all medical needs are fully covered. Dr. Oladoyinbo praised Pastor Ashimolowo for his exceptional dedication and support throughout the outreach.
Dr. Oladoyinbo also announced that from today, 24-hour service will be provided for 400 eye surgeries of varying complexities. Since the outreach began five weeks ago, approximately 260 to 270 surgeries have already been successfully conducted. He emphasized that CCRW has engaged some of the best and most skilled doctors, including specialists from teaching hospitals and professors from across the country.
Highlighting the most challenging surgery performed so far, Dr. Oladoyinbo described a 13-hour procedure involving the removal and reconstruction of an entire jaw using implants and rib bones. He noted that this surgery, which would ordinarily cost ₦6-7 million, was done at no cost to the patients. He also cited other expensive procedures, including a thyroid surgery valued at ₦1.5-2 million and a myomectomy surgery that typically costs ₦750,000 to ₦800,000 in Lagos.
Dr. Oladoyinbo described the outreach as unprecedented, both in scope and impact, with the number and range of surgeries performed being unmatched. He highlighted the joy and relief brought to countless homes and patients who had long struggled with their health conditions due to a lack of funds.
One of the Patients, Dr. Akande Blessing expressed her astonishment at the remarkable generosity of one man meeting such high medical needs.
According to Dr. Kazeem Olayemi,, 10 thyroid surgeries and 15 total removal of the womb have been successfully performed at the Police Hospital Eleyele.
He applauded the outcomes of the procedures, noting that some patients were discharged just three days after surgery.
Dr. Kunle Olukotun and Dr. Tola Olukotun highlighted the achievements at the Anglican Diocese Hospital, Molete, where 125 surgeries have been conducted by a team of 18 medical practitioners. They mentioned that several teenagers underwent lump removal surgeries, saving them from potential stigmatization at a young age.
They also shared some standout cases, such as relieving a man of fluid accumulation in his scrotum and removing a large breast lump, both of which brought immense relief to the patients and their families.
