USAID, BA-N TAKE TUBERCULOSIS AWARENESS TO IBADAN MARKETS

The United State Agency International Development Agency (USAID) funded project, Breakthrough Action-Nigeria in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and other partners have taken the campaign for the early testing of Tuberculosis to some markets in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Wednesday.

In commemoration of the World Tuberculosis Day celebrated on March 24, 2023, the State coordinator, Breakthrough Action Nigeria, Oyo State office, Mrs OLUWATOYIN AFACHANG said there is a decrease in the cases of Tuberculosis in Oyo state due to increased awareness and campaigns.

AFACHANG, who visited Ogunpa market, corporative corner in Ibadan, one of the campaign locations, said persistent coughing might be a symptom of the airborne disease, as she called for early testing and that treatments is free.

The state coordinator also urged people to ensure they complete their covid-19 doses and continue using nose mask especially in crowded places.

Tuberculosis and Leprosy Supervisor for Ibadan Northwest Local Government Area ODENIYI IYABODE, while fielding questions from our correspondent also at Ogunpa market today, said the state has seen increased cases of Tuberculosis in recent times.

IYABODE explained that an individual can be infected when they inhale air from the dry spittle of an infected patient.

The team conducted free chest x-rays, collection of samples as well as free treatment for patients who test positive and also the administration of COVID-19 vaccine.

Tuberculosis is a potentially serious infectious bacterial disease that mainly affects the lungs. The bacteria that causes TB are spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
